The rules of criminal procedure in Florida are the rules that govern how your case is going to be handled by the courts when you are charged as a defendant in a criminal case. They’re rules that have been enacted by the Florida Supreme Court that set out the guidelines and the procedures and the process and how it will be handled by the courts in terms of your moving through the criminal justice system. They differ from substantive criminal laws, which means the law that describes what a crime is and what the criminal sentence might be for a crime if you’re convicted. The procedural rules determine what fair play is, how things work, and how long it takes.
